Inspired by Cacti

I find much inspiration for my art and design from nature. Layering, contrast, scale, texture, light and shade, pattern, form, boundary breaking and color are always present! In December 2024, we visited the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Phoenix while staying with friends. Col. William Boyce Thompson built the garden and filled it with hundreds of species of cacti as a place of research and education on caring for these incredible plants. Having witnessed human suffering firsthand before and after the Russian Revolution—primarily due to crop devastation—he became convinced that agriculture, food supply, and social justice are linked. His house is depicted but is not open to the public. With a large glass facade and gorgeous veranda, the building stands at 200 ft above Queen Creek in Superior, AZ.
